oh the irony of it all

ya know, i must enjoy the things most folks don't. i dunno. who needs to go out of their way for entertainment? i mean really.
between karma and irony...who needs anything else?
karma keeps me calm when people are hopeless. i can move on b/c i know everyone gets their come-uppance. irony, well i mean what else can you really do but laugh at it?
case in point, and what has prompted this pointless blog post at all;
we've not had outside water for almost a year. yeah rock on crappy ass landlord, rock on. :| jack ass. but anyway.... we finally got that situation recently. it took DRASTIC measures for something seriously as simple as we thought all along. um, anyway... mike has been dying to handwash the cars. they needed it pretty bad too. it's shit spreadin' time in norfolk! i.e. there's mud and crap everywhere and it reeks of muck and carcass all over the entire county. especially on awesome days like today when it's windy!

so obviously our cars are filthy and really really needed the wash. mike and the boys scrubbed both our cars, cleaned the wheels till they were sparkly and shiny. or..."squeaky clean" per cody's words. :)
so today i ran to base for a quick grocery run. about 10 minutes into the trek i had to call mike b/c i couldn't stop laughing at one of the most disgusting things to happen to one of my vehicles ever. twice as funny that it was funny to me if you knew how i was about meat... oh yeah it's going THERE.
so there's a big truck, and then a bmw SUV in front of me....
then there was this road kill.

the big truck rolled over the road kill, then the bmw trudged it up off the road apparently and what else could it do but slop a huge hunk of animal carcass right on my hood? yes, i mean really...who the HELL does that happen to? so now i have this gross slimy, old rotting hunk of God only  knows what meaty furry something on my hood. just waving at me as i'm driving. i mean really, what the hell was i going to do about it anyway? so trying to not look at it so i don't barf or wreck, and then wouldn't ya know it??? another set of big trucks rolls the opposite way and sprays shit dirt all over my car, and kind of did a tarred and feathered number with the carcass chunks. yeah...awesome i say.
i'm not done...
so then the opportunity arose to pass the first offender, so as i'm flying by him guess what??? ooooh yes the blinding speed once again lifted the meat chunk and it flew from my hood right into my windshield and tangled all up in my wipers.
how awesome is that??? and again i ask...who the HELL does that happen to??
so of course, i had to call mike and laugh. all that time he spent making my car sprakle and squeak...to end up covered with guts, goo, fur, carcass, and shit-dirt.
ya know...i DID tell him that i wasn't going to bother washing the car until it was staining our clothes by getting near it or until about june when all the poop spreading was over. that's what he gets for being sweet and productive i guess....

so anyway. that's my monday in a nutshell. well, add in that my blackberry is still not back and i'm really not the least bit patient about it this time. i have full intentions of annoying the crap out of them until they either replace it or give me something else. as in....daily. i just don't care. okay and then i went to get groceries and the salad bar was out of cheese AND ranch. lame. and then i got a call to come get kade a few minutes early b/c he was not feeling well in his tummy. that's as far as i will go to remain sensitive to my boy. :( so yeah...but ya know? i'm STILL in a good mood. :)

i'm working HARD on my calorie counting again. gotta get this no smoking weight off. and i just cannot be in a yucky  mood when awesome hair is but a couple more days away. :)
i'm stoked!!!!

be glad that i do not have my blackberry b/c i'd have totally photographed my nasty car and plastered it all over facebook and here. b/c that's the sick sense of humor i have.

well, i need to get mario and luigi lined out here before WWIII breaks out in my living room. maybe if they keep messing with me i'll make them go clean my car........

stair climbing and cliff diving

yep, that's what we did this weekend. er...okay we did one and avoided the other one with our lives. literally...
well it's almost 2am and i do NOT function worth a crap keeping these hours anymore. however, i've just dosed a little boy with some motrin, so i wanted to wait a little bit to see if it makes any difference before i pass out. hopefully i'm not creating a second wind by blogging. that's all i need...to kick the insomnia back in again.

anyhoo. be thrilled, be ecstatic, be all that you can possibly be if you have nothing else on earth to do. we did something this weekend. can you believe it? yeah. well it was somewhat/mostly spontaneous and would've been more spontaneous than that had we made arrangements for the mutt and had passports on us. at any rate, we were going to go somewhere else, but... i read up on it some more and wasn't so pleased with the way its done. LAME.
so mike's been wanting to go to dover castle. sooo....why not? what else were we going to do? sit around here and do laundry? Oh! wait, no we could've gone to the base and wasted money in the BX and then maybe hit the bowling alley! (*YAWN*)

shockingly we got a bit of a late start (it wasn't my fault this time! woohoo!!!) but really, with a spontaneous trip, it just doesn't really matter much does it??? the only problem is that we're still on winter time (and rightfully so but it seems there MIGHT be hope yet now) so the castle was to close @ 4pm! eek! it was about a 3 hour drive and we still had to hit the base for some gas and lunch! we made it though, in perfect timing actually. the boys had tiny bladders for the trip, but hey it's better than in the seat, so whatever. traffic was minimal.
so off we go jamming out to patsy cline down the m20 around the edge of london on our way to dover. must make note of the oddities of life you know. ;)
we made a death defying race across the world's tallest bridge. okay so i don't know if it was the world's tallest, but it really seemed like it. while i don't particularly care for great heights, actually it's only getting back DOWN that i don't like, bridges don't ever bother me. this one...well it was actually a little bit on the freaky side. tina would have passed out. i have no doubt. i did not take a photo either. sorry.
(on the way back though, apparently no one finds it freaky b/c it was jam packed bumper to bumper from one end to the other with rush hour. i think i WOULD have been totally freaked to be stuck on it w/ no way out. remember i AM the statistic. so it's best not to be in my presence in the chance something statistical can happen....).
anyhoo.... we made it in plenty of time. got our potty breaks out of the way and hit the castle grounds. first thing was first, up to the look out to see france. crazy sometimes the things we do that you'd never have thought you'd really be doing. okay so there's all those world travellers out there and great for you. sure i was certain i'd do and see things when i was younger, invincible and "destined" to be famous. Um...okay but back to reality. so here i was standing on a platform at the edge of the english channel looking at france across the water. cuh-raaaazy!
the boys were so good, thank goodness! HOPEFULLY, hopefully, HOPE-FUL-LY we are getting "there". There being, that good place where we can FINALLY get beyond the reclusive stage and get out and do things! my big boys have a lot they need to see and do.
so we saw the english channel, france, ferries, teeny tiny trucks and cars way down below us and behind us....a big ass castle. i mean pretty cool for a couple of little boys with such cool parents. ;)

so on to the castle we went. now we've been in a few, obviously, since we got here, but DAMN none compared! this thing was ENORMOUS!! i'm sure we missed a couple of rooms. it was a maze! i'm undeniably certain i'd have NEVER wanted to be a princess. i knew i didn't, but there's certainly NO question about it now! how DEPRESSING can a castle be? yuck!!!! such poor lighting, dreary surroundings. yep...i'd have been much happier living in the stables or some peasant's dump in a field somewhere. absolutely. you know it's true too!

we went all through it and the boys thought it was pretty cool. they were doing some re-enactment and cody was absolutely not interested in watching it at all. it was the "king" up on his throne doing some king stuff. he left the room and said he did NOT want to see the king. i asked him why and he said, "because i don't LIKE the king!".
well fair enough i suppose, most of them weren't too likable anyway i'd say.
of course we had to hit the gift shop on the way out and hey guess who got two more wooden swords. this time their DAD bought them the biggest ones imaginable. *insert sour expression here*
from there we drove up to the white cliffs of dover and did a very quick walk out to see them. it's now after 4 in the afternoon, the boys were up at 5-ish and oddly did not nap a single wink all the way there. so as you can imagine they were getting a bit sleepy.
now imagine...steep cliffs, sleepy jumpy floppy whiny children. yeah, it was far too horrendous to take another step really. they were not being "bad" at all, but just...tired little kids. tired little kids on a sheer cliff side is not such a good mix, especially when you add in the other people walking by. beyond the terrifying idea of one of my kids falling off, i was also scared they might knock someone else off. so we stopped. we took a photo. we got back to a wider ledge. that was good enough for now!
at any rate, it was neat. it was just awesome to get out of the house! to see something new! for it not to be -35 degrees and windy and wet and icky! okay it's not THAT cold, but it's been damn cold and horribly dreary even for england. while the clouds were jerks and ruined the "sunny" part of the forecast, it still wasn't that bad. especially being on the water like that.
so we had a great time and we are all ready to go again somewhere new!!! now we've got it worked out with our neighbor and gotten them a spare key should we decide to stay over, they can come grab oscar for us! poor girl, she was so lonely!
we've got a friend staying over with us this coming weekend and if we don't go on the school trip the following weekend, i bet we're out of here again!!! :)
needless to say, the cabin fever is getting us all crazy and we're getting the hell out of here as much as possible!!!! (not to mention i really feel like we're quickly running out of time to see/do things b/c we ARE!!!).

at any rate, i'm feeling a bit more lively i guess. since we had a fairly uneventful long day out with the boys. that in itself is worth HUGE celebration. then i'm going to do something that is LONG LONG LONG overdue. i'm going to have a take care of aimee week! yep. gonna go get some of that waxing done to get rid of my harry henderson outfit, a pedi to get rid of my frodo feet, a cut and color so i can lose the amy winehouse hair and i'm even on the lookout for a somewhat conveniently located tanning salon so i can get a little color back on me. perhaps i will feel like myself again soon! this winter has done us ALL in and maybe all of that coupled with the 50 degrees i see on the useless forecast will have the wit and charm flowing right out of me. ;o)

until then....yep.

lack luster -- lack lustre

oh man, my spelling is going to suck when i get back unless the reader is accustomed to american AND european spelling. oi!
well. i'm trying, obviously, to blog a lot more. however, i realize...they suck. not much of interest.
so to explain. quite frankly.
we're boring and bored. yes. i might have mentioned that a time or two about myself, but it really is like a virus and it's plagued us all. this winter really has gotten to us all. while i, myself, am headed off to start tanning. i believe it might be time to invest in a SAD light or i heard tale of one up at the base that is for us to use. so i wonder how that works with small kids? i saw the sun, while in the woods this morning for a few minutes. while it was absolutely FREEZING and there's still snow on the ground (seriously WHY have i still not purchased some waterproof super lined ultra warm boots yet??) the sun came out. it burst through the tall tree tops and i stopped, much to oscar's dismay, in the middle of a clearing and just stood. while my breath was puffing out like smoke, and my feet were nearing frost bite, oh how glorious that sun was!
my face was warm, my body even felt warm anywhere it was touched by the light. it is something, that is impossible to explain until you go from living in sun-hell like abilene to no-sun-hell like england! perhaps it is the way i could explain how WARM 60 degrees is here contrary to how COOL it is in texas.
i was GIDDY to see temps in the near forecast @ 43 degrees! how sad?? yeah i am stoked for a 50 degree day in the sun.
when it hits 60 and the sun is out, the kids are playing hookie from school and we're stripping down to our skivvies and running wild, laying around...whatever we can to soak up as much as we can.
let's all pray for the neighbors sakes that they all stay at work that day!

at any rate, i feel like it's my job, i think it was in the job description but maybe i need a raise b/c it's a lot more work here, to get us all on the move. find some things to get the wheels cranking. to ..... well that old olivia newton john song just burst into my head (and MAN did i love it back when, i should totally find that pic) "lets get physical!!!". probably a different context, but regardless, it is what we need.
i think i'm going bike shopping. :o) i wonder if you really DON'T forget how??? i'd better get some grown up knee, elbow, butt, and should pads and an ultra mega helmet. yeah. spend less on a bike and more on protection. that's probably ideal for me. and then...i should probably practice some before i subject the whole family to it. hmmm....
their bikes haven't fared too well over the winter either. i'm pretty disappointed in that as it is.

at any rate, my project now is clearing out the office. i wanted to get rid of all desktops, however that is awhile in the making. if, and the operative word here is *IF*, i can get my programs to work on this, then i am fairly certain the two desktops are about to get cleared off and set up for the beating of a lifetime. um, in other words, handed down to the boys.
i sooooo wish that they could take decent care of stuff. i'd have loved to get them notebooks for CHristmas. soon enough i'm sure.
i'd just love to have a small desk area for each of them but one that isn't overcrowded with computer equipment. well, soon enough i hope. i'm holding a camera hostage from kade until he can prove he can take care of things. we'll see.

well...on that note, i think i hear a salad calling my name.
i've got a lot of work to do.

ahhh...mobility at last

i'm going to scream.
i just wrote out this whole long post. and guess what? sure it saves my blogs as i go along...but then somehow it selected EVERYTHING and then i got an "m" out and guess what? yes that replaced EVERYTHING and left me with "m" after nearly an hour of trying to yap about pretty much nothing with all interruptions included of course.

at any rate, i'm excited. i tried the netbook for 2 days. apparently i'm not 19 anymore and and cant be doing any of that 10" screen business. so my spoiled self took it back to store and traded it for five more inches. ;) haha! how could i resist though? i was just going to get a comparably priced laptop, but how shocking, they were OUT. so...spoiled, i noticed this beauty and mike got this for me instead. oh how i love thee new laptop. (except for that annoying thing i can't figure out that keeps opening new windows randomly and....selecting and erasing long blog posts). as long as i have coveted a macbook pro, i used my neighbors y'day and honestly i like this better. granted, i'm sure part of it is that i really have no desire to learn a new OS. i'm sure i'm the only photographer on earth that will say that. i just don't see the amazing difference. i actually think, thus far, this one is faster. haha

anyway. nothing much here. sick to DEATH of this shit winter and this shit weather. its not just me either, even lifelong residents say it's especially awful this year. i've never seen so much snow in my life. it's snowed sooooo much this year, most times it didn't stick and i'm even sure a lot of folks didn't even know it ever snowed (a lot was late at night). it has though. a lot. it snowed like mad just this morning, even started sticking and i'd rather have that than the in between. barf.
anyway. i keep daydreaming about the sun. about wearing shorts and sitting outside and feeling the warm sun on my skin. i even got called "fair-skinned" by a doctor!!! ME?!?! yep. i'm kinda pasty. ugh.
i think i might go find myself a tanning salon. sheesh.

anyway. i also don't have new photos. i know, dis-owned. *sigh* i just can NOT get the creativity going. there are loads of ideas up there, they just don't want to un-hinge and come on out. so i think i need to just schedule something and go DO it, with someone i can't cancel on at that. haha!
i think that will get me going. i know that steph and shannon are saying, "but you have two perfectly good subjects right there!!!" i can hear it, yep. all the way over here before you've even said it. i know, but it's just hard to explain. i'm afraid my camera is going to stop working due to no use.
well. i'm working on it.

however, my main point in suffering through endless interruptions was to try out a new method of sharing photos on here. so, just as a tester, we'll see how this is. if i could find a faster/easier way to share bulk photos, then hey all the better. it is an issue actually.
so, if this does work, then there are just a few that were faves from 2009. nothing new necessarily etc...

so here goes. i hereby vow to blog more now that i can do it easier without having to leave my children totally unattended or trying to do this in my sleep. now i can just vaguely ignore them in the same room and blog. that's way totally better right?

oh and now someone, something is totally screwing with me. firefox crashed. AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!!!!!!!! (luckily firefox saves for you, so i didn't lose THIS). ugh!!!!

okay. now on to the test.

helloooo, hellooo......HELLO??? ECho?

well, here we are. how long since my last blog? according to steph it's been way too long. ;)
here i am. trying out something new. my late birthday pressie! yay! a netbook! i've been wanting one, but oh don't i ever have such a hard time spending money on anything more than $40 at a time! yeah, well nowdays i do, here's old age setting in.
i'm trying to get used to this. this keyboard in kinda like typing on a mini-calculator at court reporter speed. my giant man-hands (i'll never forgive seinfeld for that episode!) are having a bit of difficulty with it, but i will get used to it!
at any rate. there is absoLUTELY NOTHING going on. nada. zip. zilch.
i have nothing new to report at all.
perhaps the lack of blogging of late. in fact, until a couple of days ago i had not even picked up my camera in over a month! even picking it up then, i only snapped a couple of quickie shots. hmmm, perhaps this ice age of a winter is getting to me! i told mike that i needed to go through one more winter here before i could decide if i wanted to stay here any longer. granted we've already made that decision, but i think this winter would've done me in anyway. i've figured it out, in texas we get a break randomly from the winter. there's also something like...sunlight? at regular intervals rather than that shocking moments of blinding brightness that is so fleeting you wonder if it really happened or not. in texas, however, we get those heatwaves randomly with the winter-ish weather. i think i have decided that is why the winter here is a bit tough. i'm used to random breaks here and there. there are NONE here.
so i am now certain that the BEST time for a little holiday...is NOW. its around this time last year i noticed the perpetual bitchiness had taken over and it simply took a couple hours of sunshine and above freezing temps to realize it was just a weather related funk. maybe i should go find some cheapie weekend vacay to somewhere sunny and kinda warm. :o)
spain always looks warm on weather.com

the boys are both doing well. we've had a few versions of illnesses swarming through around here. hopefully we're on the mend now! they are half-term break right now and the poor little guys have spent it all sick!! perhaps this is where some of that sunshine would again come in handy! fresh air, sunshine...yep i can feel it now!

anyway, i have to say that i finally figured out part of the reason i call less or write less and what not is b/c i currently have NOTHING to mention really. i've found out, that i am undeniably BORING. there is no beating around the bush. i. am. boring.
it's simply a sad, sad day when i come to that conclusion.
the boys are oddly playing contentedly at the moment, i've got marley and me on the tv (which incidentally had me in tears on both ends of the spectrum when we watched it. how SUE is this entire movie??? wow!) and i've got several things to get done today! i'm working on getting things ready for our move. it shouldn't be too awful long. however, not soon enough. we're moving down on the housing list, slowly...but surely.
so that said, i'm trying to get unnecessary things culled out. i also got to make an ikea run earlier in the week, so it's organization time baby! current plan... empty the entire kitchen and start all over. :) it's not that bad really, but organized neat cabinets make me smile.

at this particular time, i'm terribly sorry to report, that i have no photos to share. i know this is grounds for being disowned...but i will get on that. maybe i will get some sleep soon so i dont pass out at random intervals after the boys fall asleep tonight.

QUITTER!!!!!

Why yes, that ticker you see at the top of the page is, indeed, very true. Yes, still totally completely undeniably 100% smoke-free. Has it been hard? Actually not really. Not at all. Sure I put on a few pounds, but big deal. The first 4 days were the questionable ones. I knew if I made it past then, I'd be fine. I did, and I was. I still am. Even...with a smoker in the house still. :o)
Who, by the way, is also working on his quitting. :0) I told him his b-day was a pretty darn good time to quit. It was a really cool birthday present I gave to myself, he should try it.
Being free of the proverbial chains of an addiction is well...freeing. What else can you call it? I feel free, I smell better, I have no guilt, I am not walking around with the stench of shame and weakness wafting from my hair and clothes.
I've heard a few folks say they wish they could just do that, well..you can. All you have to do is....DO IT. This is not the first thing I've ever quit you know. The key is just having the guts to REALLY make up your mind. Not think you made up your mind but still allowing yourself room to fail. I left no room to fail on purpose. I told EVERYONE I'd quit once I made it past 72 hours b/c I KNEW I would not allow myself to fail in the eyes of SO many.
So, that is all it is. For me, I have to quit things cold turkey. If I touch it again, I will never stop.
YEsterday marked exactly one month of no cigarettes. I'm proud of me.
Well, I'm a gal with a LOT of vices. I hate having these weaknesses. So the things I wanted to quit doing this year, were quit smoking. Quit eating chocolate (all the time at least, celebrations and REALLY bad days are okay right?), and to quit drinking sodas all the time.
As it turned out, my body did me a favor yet again and decided I just could not stomach any sweets of any kind at all. So.... now I've been a few days w/ no dr. pepper and no chocolate. I should phrase that properly, I have had chocolate, just not in the form of a candy bar, cake or anything else. I will have my morning chocolate milk. Anyone be damned. It's my "coffee" you see and I have absolutely no intention of giving it up. Other than that though, none.
So perhaps this will be the year of quitting. That's what I thought originally. The number of vices I've got, I"m sure there would be no shortage. HOwever, its where therapy tends to kick in I guess. I decided "the year of quitting" is probably a little bit on the negative side. Therefore, it's simply the year of change. ;o)
Changes I will make, all through out the year. More specifically, the way its working out is a change each month. WHether it be quitting something, or starting something, or trying something. Each month I endeavor to do something different, to make the changes in myself that I want but never put forth the effort, energy or guts to do.

So, if you want to change something...join me. I am more than willing to be the ball buster in your head when you need it! (Just ask Mike, my smoking sympathy went out the window with my last smoke). He's working on it, and making very good progress now. :o)

So, last month, cigarettes, this month is apparently sweets...next month? Who knows? I've also gotten back on my exercise regime, so that's already on the go as well. Man, it's seriously pathetic how long it had been since i set foot back in the gym, but MAN OH MAN did I forget the insane HIGH I get from it? WOW. I need to go at least twice a day everyday!!!! I drove everyone nuts for hours after a half hour workout!!!

On that note, maybe my next thing shall be working on getting better sleep again. That was good. Mike's schedule sucks now though, so for whatever reason, I tend to get all out of whack too.

night all!

just to be a rebel and prove you wrong...

Since I know there are like 150 people sitting and staring at their screens, refreshing every other second, just hoping that I really will come back and post something else...
Well, okay so that's a load of crap. Anyway, just so I wouldn't be a liar or anything, here's a couple of pics of the snow. Now...truly, I have been sitting here, on my work computer since I last posted something. However...rather than putting together some monumental post of photos, amazing stories, hilarious ramblings etc... I've been having way more fun than that.
Yeah I've been backing up, cleaning off my hard drives. You'd think I'd have gotten like, REALLY far with that amount of time, but alas - not too far. It was really bad though, as in, I couldn't dump anymore of my memory cards until I got rid of some stuff because the grotesque amount of hard-drive storage space I have was kinda like...full.
Which is a. insanely disorganized and b. even more insanely irresponsible of me, I had to get it done, at least started!!!
So, that said, I made some room. I still have a LONG way to go, but I made some room at least. SO I could dump some photos from the last month! In layman's terms...I just dumped in about 1200 pictures to be done. So, yeah. We'll call it a worthwhile endeavor, although I may disagree when I have to get up in 4.5 hours!
Mike is now on a swing shift rotation. Which initially I was like, "woohoo! cool! he can do morning drop offs! how AWESOME to get to split this!!!"
Oh puh-LEAZE give me a break for being SO naive. Really, how can I ever give them the benefit of the doubt? Yeah. Well, it's an EXTENDED shift, so he doesn't even get off till 2AM and then it's nearly an hour drive home and then you add in the fact that England has gone arctic over the past month. Well...needless to say, my hopes and dreams of splitting the school running around were immediately shattered.
Go figure.
Someday, perhaps SOMEday I will know what it is like to all be here in the morning for breakfast, and all home at dinner time. YES I am well aware I"m thankful to have him here at all. DUH. More than most can actually imagine. Still, you hope, wonder what it's like. You know how the grass is always greener, in my mind...meals are always higher attendance numbers.
So anyway. That said. I'm going to toss some old photos up here, that probably need some 'splainin' but no time. Must sleep. This whole quitting smoking is great and all, even with the re-extension of my ASS, but...I'm about to bash my head through a wall with this stupid ass coughing! Did I not QUIT so I wouldn't do that?!?!?! Okay so I realize, now that I googled it a couple days ago, that it is just part of the healing process - IT CAN GO AWAY NOW!!!!!!!!
Well, my optimistic side says, since I'm coughing so much so soon for so long, that only means that my body is regenerating that good ol' lung stuff faster, stronger, better and maybe there will only be minimal damage. Let us all hope.

Now.
On to the photos so I can go hack, sputter, and choke myself to sleep.

Just a *few* from some of our recent snow. This is the first snow we got before Christmas. I don't know really how much we've ended up with. We got a great deal more up here than they got near the base. It snowed just before Christmas, had pretty much all melted off but in some places in the woods where there was no sun, and then at New Years we got hit again. There's still snow on the ground. I still can't get in my parking spot in front of the house. It's still extremely touchy just getting out to the main road...absolutely INSANE I tell you. Nothing this West Texas gal has ever seen in her *short* young years. ;o)

Sweet dreams all!!!!
